The HSE suggests once a floor meets or exceeds 36 + on the pendulum the likelihood of slipping dramatically reduces.


Do you need a pendulum slip test? Requesting to have a pendulum slip test carried out is a very specific requirement. Apart from the fact it's the preferred slip method recognised by the HSE.

Knowing the slip resistance of your floors forms part of your risk assessment, this is now a legal requirement.

Two of the other most common reasons are:

  • It's a requirement you have been asked for as part of the specification.
  • You want to find out if your floor would hold you liable should you witness an accident.
Although there are other methods of testing it's the BS7976 Pendulum readings that would be required in a UK court of law.

Fact: 30% of the floors we tested passed and legally required no further action. Don't presume because somebody has slipped over, your floors are unsafe - a certified floor will prove you are providing due diligence and render you less liable against expensive slip injury claims.
